12+ Realistic Sims 4 Adoption Mods Where Love Knows No Bounds!
Want to get a new family member to your Sims story but feel limited by the game’s adoption system?
Let’s explore the world of realistic Sims 4 adoption mods, unlocking a ton of amazing options to grow your Sims’ families with love and compassion! 👪
Do you also think the adoption options in the base game are kind of basic and do not feel that real? I’ve been feeling stuck with it for a bit, and honestly, it’s been dragging my creativity down.
I just can’t get excited about adding adoption into my game stories because it doesn’t match up with all the plot ideas I have.
That’s why I started looking around online to see what Sims 4 adoption mods are out there and what they could bring to my game.
Aaaaand I’ve found some really cool stuff! 🥰 Hopefully, this roundup helps if you’re feeling the same way I was!
This post is all about the best Sims 4 adoption mods.
1. Adoption Expansion & Overhaul (RPO, Mod 9) by Lumpinou
Mod 9 from the Relationship & Pregnancy Overhaul collection is the go-to adoption mod for Simmers. It is extremely detailed and perfect for those who love realism!
This mod includes a working adoption agency that you will need approval from to adopt a child. Plus, you have to talk it over with your partner because, well, obviously, you can’t make the decision on your own!
And if you are looking for more drama in your game, your Sim can reveal to their child that they were adopted, or the child might even find their birth parents! I love that the kids won’t realize they’re adopted because of their age – it’s just like in real life!
Or maybe your Sims are thinking about putting their child up for adoption? You can do that too!
You can even reach out to the child’s birth parents, give them a call, and meet up. I’ve done it in one of my game stories for a while ago, and I’m not gonna tell you if it was a good idea or not! 😆 That’s all up to you to figure out what kind of relationship will develop from there!
2. Celebrate Adoption by Cassity Simmer
This awesome mod adds so many cool details to your game – and you know, it’s the little things that really make a difference!
You can set a new life goal for your Sim to become an “Adoptive Parent,” read up on books about other families’ adoption experiences to get ready for their own adopted Sim, and even throw a welcome party for a new baby!
All that really gets your Sims involved in their adopted baby’s life, which I think is something the standard game really misses out on.
If your Sim decides to tell their adopted child about how they joined the family, you can give the child an “Adopted” character trait. With this new trait, the child will start asking questions about being adopted and might even worry about being left again. Other kids will also know the kid is adopted (if he or she has this new trait), and they will tease them for it.
I love the realism of this mod and how it focuses so much on the child and their feelings. Adoption is a big deal for everyone involved, and seeing all those real emotions and fears in the child makes the game feel way more immersive, don’t you think?
3. Foster Family by LittleMsSam
This mod looks after not only foster kids but foster pets, too! It adds a cool feature called “LMS Foster Family Network” right on your Sim’s phone, letting you foster kids or adopt a cat or dog.
Once you sign up with the Foster system, they’ll reach out when a child needs a home. Plus, if things get tough, your Sim can even return their adopted child, which I think is super realistic because, unfortunately, sometimes people have to step back from guardianship for various reasons.
You can also look for potential parents if you’re thinking of putting your own child up for adoption.
What I love the most about this adoption mod is that your Sim has to wait a bit before they can adopt, which adds a surprise element to your game – it’s both realistic and exciting!
4. Adopt a Teen by Randyxx
This mod is a game-changer when it comes to adoption service in the game! Ever wondered why you can’t adopt a teenager? I don’t think it’s fair! Even “big” children need love and care.
Plus, adopting a teen could be perfect for older couples. I haven’t tried a storyline like this yet, but imagine the interesting dynamics between a rebellious, adopted teen and conservative older parents.
The mod also tweaks the adoption fees to 2000 simoleons, making it feel more realistic.
5. Suggest Adopting a Pet Interactions by Flauschtrud
This lovely adoption mod will let you add your own or stray animals to other sims. It’s awesome! Now, you can run your own animal shelter and help out those furry friends!
You can either pick a specific animal for a potential owner or leave it up to chance, letting the future owner Sim choose their pet based on what they like. How cool is that? 🥰
But heads up, not every adoption attempt will work out, and your sims will get moodlets based on the outcome (I have to admit, that does sound very reasonable and realistic)! Sims who love dogs or cats are more likely to say yes to adopting.
Honestly, I’m so excited to try this mod and start my own shelter or maybe a kennel with purebred dogs!
6. Give Baby Up for Adoption by Plzsaysike
I get it that not everyone’s into those big Sims 4 adoption mods, so here’s a smaller one for you. Everything it does is just letting you have your Sim’s child adopted.
The weird thing is that the game lets you adopt from an orphanage, but doesn’t allow you to give up a child by choice. Life in Sims can go many ways, right? This could be a chance to explore what happens if a Sim decides to give up a newborn.
Think about a storyline where a young adult decides to do just that. And if you’ve got a command center in your game, the baby ends up with an NPC family, so you’re not losing the baby forever. Then, it’s all up to where you want to take the story!
7. Adopt Teens (In Person) Too by NateTheL0ser
This small mod will let you adopt a teen you ALREADY KNOW! Instead of going through the “adoption” action on a computer, you can just use the social communication menu to adopt, and it’s totally free! Right after, the teen shows up in your Sim’s family tree.
Just a heads up, your adult Sim and the teen need to be living together first before you can adopt. I think this adoption mod is perfect for playing out scenarios where you want to adopt a relative or a close friend’s kid.
I actually used it when my founder’s cousin died, and I had to move her son into a specific family. This mod was a lifesaver for my storyline! You should definitely take a look at it!
8. Show Hidden Adoption Relationship by Szemoka
This small mod is a must-have if you play with adopted children in your game! It updates the character’s profile with a display of the real relationship between the adopted kid and their adoptive parents.
Representation matters, right? Being a foster child isn’t good or bad; it’s just a part of their story. And I think it’s cool to have that info right there in the Sim’s profile!
9. Adoption & Science Baby V1 by Serra (Xosdr)
So, with the “Growing Together” add-on, we got this cool option to have an IVF baby.
But, didn’t you find it kind of weird how your Sim just shows up with a baby in a blink of an eye? I know many of us Simmers, including myself, have been really disappointed with such an implementation!
This mod tweaks the Science Baby feature to make it feel way more real. Now, you can still choose to have the baby right away or go through a pregnancy period, enjoying the wait. By the way, both women and men can try for a baby this way, though guys have a trickier time getting pregnant.
Also, the mod bumps up adoption fees. It’ll cost your Sims 3,000 Simoleons to adopt a child and 350 Simoleons for a cat or dog. Makes sense, right? Higher prices just make the game feel more realistic.
After this mod I can’t, just CAN’T, use the classic Test Tube Baby feature! So be careful, this mod is addictive!
10. Public Welfare “Career” by Simularity
This mod will add social benefits to the game! It totally makes sense that someone taking care of foster kids should get some help from the government, right?
These benefits work like a full-time job, so your Sim can’t work another job and get other benefits at the same time. The more kids you have, the more money you get. I think it’s pretty realistic!
What I like the most about this mod is that your Sim actually has to meet with social services in the game to get their money. Miss a meeting, and they miss out on their check. Skip two, and they’re cut off from the benefits system entirely.
I can already imagine so many stories about a dysfunctional family! An irresponsible parent with three children got cut off the benefits and started struggling, or, on the contrary, a single mom doing her best with just the benefits to support her adopted kid.
The story possibilities with this mod are countless!
11. Set Family Relationships by Simsmodelsimmer
You must check out this mod that adds a ton of new relationships to the game, like stepkids, stepsiblings, and stepparents. I always felt the game was missing these kinds of family dynamics, so I think it’s a total game-changer.
It’s not just for those playing with adopted kids, either. It makes any story way more realistic and deep. I’m loving it!
12. Insemination & Surrogacy (RPO, Mod 8) by Lumpinou
And now, I just wanted to mention the topic of surrogacy shortly on this list. I know surrogacy is not exactly like adoption since your Sim’s baby will still be biologically theirs, but it’s also about bringing the baby into the family differently.
The 8th mod from the “Relationships and Pregnancy” mod pack does exactly that! Your Sims can either have a baby through a surrogate or be a surrogate for someone else.
This could be a neat way to explore scenarios where a Sim can’t physically have a baby due to health reasons, especially if you’re using mods that add more depth to health and fertility. It’s a fresh take on the whole pregnancy experience!
Plus, this mod also brings artificial insemination into play, making everything super realistic. Your Sim gets to check out donor profiles to pick the perfect match or go with random genetics. Perfect for single Sims looking to start a family!
13. Adoptive Parents by Persea
Oh gosh, this adoption mod totally won me over! It’s packed with moodlets, goals, and interactions that really spice up family gameplay. Like, when your Sim adopts a kid, they get this special moodlet, fresh interactions, and even a new character trait.
And guess what? The kid can look up not only their biological parents but also siblings and even grandparents! Imagine if your Sim told their kid not to dig into their past, but the kid goes ahead and does it anyway. Such a cool plot twist! They’d need a DNA test, which this mod sorts out for them.
But even that’s not all! The adopted kid can hit up a family law office and might come back with a photo of their potential bio family. Or the office might give out your Sim’s info to the biological parents, who could then show up out of the blue.
Picture the drama when the biological parents knock on the door of the adoptive family one sunny day. This feature just lights up my imagination and makes me want to play even more! That’s the sign of an awesome gameplay mod, right?
And that’s it for my top Sims 4 adoption mods list!
I hope you found some cool custom content to add to your game and make your adoption stories even better. Let me know which mods you’re adding to your mods folder or if you’ve tried any of these out before.
Cheers! 👋
